If you’re stuck and unable to move past something, it's probably getting in the way of living the life you want to live. A relatively new technique called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy can help fade painful memories. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to encourage your brain to process trauma images, shifting them from being in “the driver’s seat” to long-term memory. This technique involves using sensory or auditory stimuli to encourage processing, fade the images and reduce the intensity of the emotions surrounding traumatic events, allowing you to manage the memories more comfortably.
Incidents like car accidents, sexual assault, physical assault, domestic violence, betrayal, and natural disasters can be treated with EMDR, as can anxiety, panic, fears and phobias.
Challenging psychological experiences do not have to be a lifetime sentence. They can be effectively treated, allowing you to design and plan your own future and work towards your life goals.
